چکیده

The Triassic was a time of turmoil, as life recovered from near-annihilation. Archosauromorph reptiles flourished and diversified as they filled empty ecological niches, and some of them presaged later dinosaurian inventions, such as thickened skull roofs.

Models for the Rise of the Dinosaurs

Dinosaurs arose in the early Triassic in the aftermath of the greatest mass extinction ever and became hugely successful in the Mesozoic. Their initial diversification is a classic example of a large-scale macroevolutionary change. Diversifications at such deep-time scales can now be dissected, modelled and tested. New fossils suggest that dinosaurs originated early in the Middle Triassic, duri...

Dental Disparity and Ecological Stability in Bird-like Dinosaurs prior to the End-Cretaceous Mass Extinction

The causes, rate, and selectivity of the end-Cretaceous mass extinction continue to be highly debated [1-5]. Extinction patterns in small, feathered maniraptoran dinosaurs (including birds) are important for understanding extant biodiversity and present an enigma considering the survival of crown group birds (Neornithes) and the extinction of their close kin across the end-Cretaceous boundary [...

Cenozoic insect-plant diversification in the tropics.

E volution has done wonders with mass extinctions. Organic diversity has rebuilt itself at least five times during the history of life on Earth, fashioning novelty from the organic remnants of each catastrophe (1). Modern biodiversity arose from a global extinction event at the end of the Cretaceous period (the ‘‘K-T’’ extinction) that probably was caused by an asteroid or comet impact. This pe...
